ROB
KELVIN
Weekday News Presenter
Nine News
Rob has been
the face of the Channel 9 Weekday News Bulletin for 31 years.
Rob completed
high school at Woodville High before studying economics part time.
From 1964 to 1970 Rob worked as a Patrol Officer in Papua New
Guinea. During this time he was involved with a host of projects
including surveying roads, administering local elections, performing
magisterial duties and advising local government. He returned
to Australia in 1971, joining Lee Murray's Radio School in Melbourne
and has been in the media ever since.
Radio stations
4AY Townsville, 3SH Swan Hill, 7HT Hobart, 5KA and 5AD in Adelaide
have all benefited from Kelvin's experience.
Kelvin joined
Adelaide's Channel Nine in 1979, first as sports editor and presenter,
then in 1983 Rob began presenting Nine News on weekdays.
Rob also hosts
Out of the Ordinary, a locally made series, which features local
stories about ordinary South Australians doing extraordinary things.
Rob is a member
of the board of Channel Nine Telethon.
MICHAEL
SMYTH
Weekday News Presenter
Nine News
Michael Smyth
is a senior newsreader for Channel Nine Adelaide.
Michael joined
the Nine's News team as a senior reporter and producer in October
2008. Michael now co-presents with Rob Kelvin delivering Adelaide's
Nine News bulletin Monday to Friday at 6pm.
Michael
previously had a 12 year career at the ABC. During his time with
the national broadcaster he presented the 7pm news and worked
on the weekly current affairs program 'Stateline'.
He also produced
a number of television programs, produced and presented radio
news and hosted programs on 891.
Prior to joining
the ABC, Michael worked for Channel 9 Adelaide as a reporter and
read news at Triple M in Adelaide and Sydney. Smyth also worked
in the newsroom at Adelaide's 5AA.
Michael began
his journalism career with a cadetship at 2-Double-0 in Wollongong
after graduating from the Australian Film, Television and Radio
School.
GEORGINA
McGUINNESS
Weekend News Presenter
Nine News
Georgina
shares the Nine News desk each Saturday and Sunday evening with
sports presenter Troy Gray and weatherman Xavier Minniecon.
South Australian
born and bred, Georgina was educated at Adelaide’s Seymour College,
and went on to study at Magill College of Advanced Education (now
the Magill campus of the University of SA), obtaining a Bachelor
of Arts (Journalism).
Georgina,
who began working in the Channel Nine newsroom after her graduation
in January 1987, spent a year “on the road as a reporter” before
being offered the presenter’s role. She moved to the newsroom
desk in 1988.
The eldest
of three children, she says she never really thought of any other
career than journalism – “I like people and I’m a sticky beak!
What other career could I possibly have?”
Georgina
has four adorable children of her own, Charlotte (17), Lucy (14),
Arabella (12) and Georgina’s youngest, Oscar is 10 years old.
Georgina
is an official Ambassador for the Australia Refugee Association
as well as a volunteer in their weekly Family Support program.
Georgina is a member of their emergency support team to help families
in crisis.
Georgina
is involved with Meals on Wheels and each fortnight delivers meals
around her local community.
The McGuinness
McDermott Foundation is an important part of Georgina’s life;
she takes part in annual charity fundraising events and travels
the world to help fundraise.
KATE COLLINS
Nine News
Kate Collins is a reporter and presenter for Nine News. Kate has
been with Channel 9 Adelaide since November 2006.
Kate Collins
completed an undergraduate bachelor of Media degree at Adelaide
University in 2005 and a Post Graduate Diploma of Journalism at
Magill Uni SA in 2006.
While completing
her studies, Kate worked as a weekend newsreader at Austereo for
just over 9 months, before leaving to make the switch to TV, joining
the Channel 9 news team as a General Reporter four years ago.
2008 was
a major highlight for Kate’s career when she was announced as
the presenter of the latest edition of Adelaide’s A Current Affair.
Kate quickly became accepted and well-known to the Adelaide viewers.
Kate is a
trusted and admired young newsreader with a fine career ahead
of her. Kate reports for Nine News and is apart of the presenting
team.
